Moustache – Natural or Styled
All moustache competitors will be judged in a single category. There will be one first place for Natural Moustache, and one first place for Moustache Styled. Second and third places will be either Natural or Styled.
Hair on top lip only, any length. All hair more than 1.5cm from the corner of the mouth must be shaved. Natural – Natural shaping permitted but no styling aids. Styled – Styling aids permitted.
A neat ‘business-like’ beard, either partial or full. Beard to be no more than 10cm in length, as measured from the bottom of the lower lip. Styling aids permitted.
Anything that is not a full set. No restriction on length. Natural shaping or with use of styling aids, whichever the competitor prefers. Moustaches may be extravagantly styled, but beard must be a natural shape.
(‘Octopus’ is a natural shape for an octopus, but not a beard. Octopuses (octopi?) belong in freestyle.)
Full Beard Natural – under 8 inches
Full set, as grown. Beard to be no more than 20cm in length, as measured from the bottom of the lower lip. Natural shaping permitted but no styling aids.
Full Beard Natural – over 8 inches
Full set, as grown. Beard to be more than 20cm in length, as measured from the bottom of the lower lip. Natural shaping permitted but no styling aids.
Full Beard Styled
Full set, as grown. No restriction on length. Styling aids permitted. Moustaches may be extravagantly styled, but beard must be a natural shape.
Here be octopuses.
Moustache, partial beard or full beard. Creative, extravagant or unusual styling. Styling aids permitted and also dyes and accessories, but no false hair.
For those without facial hair, anything goes – dig out the craft box and use your imagination! Knitting, crochet, macrame, Meccano, Lego, wire, string, paper, ribbons, flowers…
There are two categories, one for adults (of all genders) and one for children (again, of all genders).
All of the above categories will be scored on the following criteria:
– Example of category
– Overall impression
Example of category includes beard length, where stated. If, in the opinion of the judges, your beard does not meet the length criteria for the category, you will be marked down accordingly. A ruler will be available at the registration desk, if you wish to check and consider changing category.
There will be five judges on each panel. Each judge will indicate their favourite competitor in each category, to be used in the event of tied scores. If there is still a tie, the result will be decided by rock, paper, scissors.
You may enter a second category, subject to meeting the criteria. Competitors may only be awarded one prize – if you score in the top three in more than one category, you will receive the placing and prize for your highest score only.
If you wish to enter a second category, please purchase a competitor ticket for your first category and advise your choice of second category at DCBMC registration. You will be asked to make a charity donation of at least £1.
